KARACHI - Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has failed to start
Electronic Billing to facilitate its consumers due to number of reasons
despite the fact that IT department has developed a complete system to
launch the E-billing system, The Nation learnt on Saturday.
The
E-Billings system was developed in the KWSB more than two years ago and
it was decided in principle that the system would be launched on urgent
basis. On experimental basis it was launched on the internet but
officially the distribution of KWSB E-billing system could not be
started so far. Sources said due to various reasons including lack
of interests and lethargic attitude of the authorities concerned, the
project of E-billing system could not be materialised. The distribution
of KWSB bills has been a long standing issue and various efforts were
made to improve the distribution network of KWSB bills but all efforts
failed desperately. Approximately more than 2 million consumers are
registered with the KWSB but only 35 per cent of the consumers pay bills
to the board. The KWSB inspectors and other staff did not take
interest to distribute the bills properly and hundred of thousands of
KWSB bills could not be dispatched to the consumers. The sources in
KWSB IT department said that experimentally the new E-billing system
proved successful and consumers can see the details of their bills on
KWSB’s official website www.kw-sb.org but officially this project was
not materialised. The sources said it is up to the KWSB high ups to
launch the E-billing system as arrangements to launch E-billing system
has completed. |
