Telus joins other mobile providers with paper bill fee

on Thursday 19 Aug 2010

Beginning Sept. 21, Telus will charge its cellphone customers $2 each month for a paper bill in a bid to be more environmentally conscious by saving trees.

Telus spokesman Shawn Hill said people will have a choice of paying through an online account or having the bill sent to the consumer’s cellphone.

The extra fee will only apply to wireless customers who choose to have paper bills. Land line bills are not affected.

Hill said Telus wants to save the paper that would be used for its millions of customers. He noted that 88,000 Telus mobile phone customers have switched to online in the past two months.

The company will donate the proceeds from the charge to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Virgin, Fido and Bell already charge a fee for mailing out cellphone bills.
