City of Cambridge is now offering people a new way to receive water bills. An eBilling service allows customers to sign up for electronic delivery of their water/waste bills and receive the information about four weeks prior to the due date of the account.

According to Jonathon Lautenbach, city director of financial services, the plan is to expand online service options to give customers a choice to not only receive their water bills electronically, but also view information on their consumption history, and other account details online. The city is hoping to have these added options available by the end of 2012.

In January, the city launched a new work order system that allows customers to request a final meter reading and sign up for a new water account online through the city's website.

The new eBilling service will help the city reduce postage and printing costs as well as reduce the use of paper and help the environment.

If 25 per cent of the city's water customers (10,000) sign up for the new service, the potential savings would be approximately $60,000 per year in postage and printing costs.
