Electronic billing could save Strathcona County tens of thousands of dollars in the next few years.
By getting residents to use e-billing, financial services predicts the county will save $20,019 based on the assumption that 25 per cent of customers will make the switch. The savings factors in the cost of implementation of $5,000 and a $15,000 mailout to offer services to existing customers.
Coun. Roxanne Carr said she wanted to see the mailout with regular bills to further save money. By 2010, half of people could switch to e-billing, saving $67,823 compared to 2008 figures, according to the county.
Financial services predicts that there will be a savings of $86,464 with 66 per cent of customers using e-billing. The costs will be reduced by saving on the cost of paper, postage and envelopes.
Cochrane and Wainwright already have e-billing.
