AmBank (M) Bhd (AmBank) has announced its commitment to reduce the use
of paper by promoting the eStatement as an alternative to the hard
copy monthly statement for its credit card members. In its press release, the AmBank Card Centre had embarked on several
activities to garner the support of its over 500,000 credit card
members. In an effort to create awareness of the initiative and drive
home its message of reducing the use of paper, AmBank sought the
involvement of members of the community.
As part of the initiative, AmBank Cards invited 200 students of PJ
College of Art & Design (PJCAD) to participate in a specially
organised Poster Design Competition themed ‘Cut down paper, not trees’.
The students were only provided with AmBank’s past communication
materials to design their posters. The posters submitted for the
competition conveyed the message ‘Reduce the use of paper by choosing
the eStatement’, through a variety of interesting and thought-provoking
illustrations. They are to be displayed at the bank’s 190 branches
beginning July 20, 2010.
“We are very privileged to be able to work in partnership with the
talented students of PJCAD in this initiative. They have produced
excellent work, reflective of the creative genius of budding designers,
said Datuk Mohamed Azmi Mahmud, managing director of Retail Banking for
AmBank.
“The posters effectively illustrate the dangers of cutting down too
many trees. We know they will get the attention of every visitor to our
branches throughout the country,” he added at a brief ceremony in the
bank’s head office to present first, second and third prize winners of
the Poster Design Competition, Lee Mei Ying, Yang Huei Theng and Loh
Chia Hou respectively, their prizes of preloaded AmBank NexG PrePaid
Cards.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility to create awareness
on reducing the use of paper, we will display over 30 of the best judged
posters at two exhibition venues, the lobbies of our Jalan Yap Kwan
Seng and Raja Chulan branches from July 7 to 12, 2010. Members of the
public are invited to drop by at our branches to view the students’
work,” added Mohamed Azmi.
The bank is also embarking on a second community project to create
awareness on the importance of reducing its carbon footprint.
“As an extension of our ‘eStatement’ initiative, we will also be
distributing recyclable shopping bags to Carrefour shoppers from July
24, 2010. It is our corporate social responsibility to continue to
spread the green message,” said Perry Ong, general manager, Card Centre
who was also present at the prize presentation ceremony.
“We urge card members to join us in our commitment to reduce paper
use. Card members who opt for the eStatement during our promotion period
are rewarded with two times AmBonus Points and stand a chance to win an
iPhone 3GS. We are very encouraged by the number of card members who
have chosen to echo our commitment by choosing the eStatement since we
launched our campaign on June 1, 2010,” he added.
The AmBank Card Centre currently successfully issues eStatements for
two of its products, AmBank Carz Card and AmBank True Visa Card and aims
to convert all its card members to the eStatement before the end of
August 2010.
From September 1, 2010, the eStatement will be adopted across all its
products. Card members will receive their statements via email. Card
members who have not chosen the eStatement are reminded to call the
AmBank Card Centre at 1300 80 8888 to register their email addresses
immediately and enjoy the benefits of registering early. |
