What about the end user? While organizations incentivize adoption of their eBilling initiatives, to maximize their benefits, their customers will continue to ask, “What’s in it for me? Why must I help you reduce your costs?”

Even Monopoly offers electronic banking.

Buying properties, paying rent and settling tax bills can be performed with the swipe of plastic card. No more paper currency cluttering up the game, which plays more quickly with the new method.

The speed and convenience of electronic banking has prompted growing numbers of consumers to sign up for those services at their banks. The electronic services offered by banks also have created another benefit.

More than half of Bank of Oklahoma's customers have opted for some form of online banking, said Derek Martin, vice president of product management for the state's largest commercial bank.

Henderson Moving to Electronic Billing for Utilities

Henderson utility customers will soon have the option of going paperless after the City Council unanimously approved a contract to make the Department of Utility Services’ billing system electronic.

Customers can already pay their bills online. The new system will do away with the need for paper statements, which will be able to be delivered via e-mail.
